Visaria Ygor and Henry Frankenstein's Monster travel to the
laboratory and home of Dr. Ludwig Frankenstein, hoping Ludwig will
finish the job of recharging the Monster that his older brother, Wolf, had
begun. Once there, Ygor gets a new idea, or dare I say, changes his
mind, when he convinces Ludwig's assistant, Dr. Bohmer, to transfer
Ygor's own diabolical brain, along with his heart, into Henry
Frankenstein's Monster.*

Germany Baron Victor Frankenstein III turns up again in the guise of
Baron Victor von Hammer, now working for the Nazi regime as a
renowned medical doctor and biochemist with the high rank of lesser
General in the SS. He not only had a group of monstrous superhumanly
powerful man-made monsters/flesh golems under his control, but also one
such creature whose appearance resembled that of a powerfully built
"perfect" Aryan man, who accompanied him under the guise of his son,
Franz von Hammer (in actuality, Franz was Victor's personal
bodyguard, main minion, and future intended vessel for his own brain). All
of these flesh golems, including the enhanced human Franz, were
perfectly capable of educated, articulate speech and basic decision-
making abilities, but were completely beholden to the Baron's will.* By
closely studying the mind control powers attributed to certain of the
Hyberboreans, the Baron also found a means to enhance his mental
powers so as to give him the ability to forcibly bend others to his will.
Now more selfishly evil than ever before, the incognito Baron
Frankenstein was simply using his position in the Nazi government to
gain the resources to enable him to journey to a surviving relict version of
the incredibly ancient and hidden kingdom called Hyperborea,** located
on a small frozen atoll called Zhokov Island in the Siberian Sea. This evil
kingdom wielded great mystical and scientific power sufficient to pose a
threat to the entire planet, which Baron Frankenstein coveted for
himself in his scheme to build his conception of a superior world. Having
discovered its ancient and current existence in the course of his arcane
research, Frankenstein sent several of his monstrous flesh golems to
kidnap the curmudgeonly but scrupulous Allied archeologist Prof. Isaac
Levi, who was the only human being living in the 20th century who knew
the location of Hyperborea's relict kingdom other than his daughter and
chief assistant Lise.*** It was the Baron's intention of forcing him to
reveal that secret to him.
This brought the Baron, his synthetic son Franz, his more monstrous
creations, and a contingent of SS soldiers under his command into
conflict with the famed and formidable adventurer called Thunder Jim
Wade and his two regular allies Dirk Mirat and Red Argyle.****
Though Prof. Levi refused to give up this information even under the
threat of torture, he nevertheless agreed to do so once the threats were
extended to Lise. Upon arriving on Zhokov Island and finding the relict
kingdom of Hyperborea, Franz was ultimately defeated in single
combat by Thunder Jim Wade while the latter's allies helped rescue
Lise Levi after her father, Prof. Levi, was unfortunately killed. Baron
Frankenstein himself pit his mental powers directly against that of Loui
the Witch Queen, the extremely old and powerful matriarch of the
Hyberoeans, with the end result being that both were severely injured to
the point of death.
However, Franz escaped capture or destruction and helped move his
father's dying body away from the area. He then willingly complied with
Baron Frankenstein's instructions to allow the latter to escape true
death by using his mental powers to transfer into his son's body while
ejecting Franz's own consciousness (Loui escaped her own demise in a
similar manner; she transferred her consciousness out of her dying,
withered body and into the skull of a young Hyperborean girl).
Shortly after this, Victor Frankenstein III, his consciousness now
controlling the body of his mighty son Franz, was recovered by Hitler's
men, where he revealed that he did indeed manage to purloin a highly
advanced short wave weapon from Hyperborea, though he calculated
that it would take he and his fellow scientific elite at least a decade to
decipher its workings. The Baron, now believed to be Franz von
Hammer by the upper echelons of the Nazi government, was awarded the
rank of Captain by a grateful Hitler himself. He then resolved to study the
Levi notes that recorded the history and whereabouts of Aceron, another
ancient and powerful civilization.*****
* How much control Baron Frankenstein actually exerted over Franz via
his mental powers is unknown, but Franz was at the very least raised to
be completely servile to his father's wishes and needs, even over that of
his own life.
** Hyperborea was likely named after the pre-historic era in which the
original version of the kingdom existed. It was first chronicled in a series
of reports by the master archeo-biographer Robert E. Howard, and
included the time periods in which the legendary barbarian warriors
Conan and Red Sonja lived.
*** Lise Levi has mentioned that one of her mother's relatives was
Inspector Krogh, the European constable who lost an arm to Henry
Frankenstein I's Monster as a child. Despite this, he eventually
distinguished himself by becoming a respected police officer, and later a
monster hunter as a member of the League of Anti-Diabolists.
**** Wade was actually raised as an infant orphan in a different powerful
and advanced relict civilization, that of Minoa, which began as an African
colony of the ancient Greek city-state of Crete. This civilization was long
at war with Hyperborea, and was largely responsible for greatly
reducing their power and threat level to the world over the millennia.
***** See Frank Schildiner's report The New Adventures of Thunder
Jim Wade Vol. 2: The Horror of Hyperborea, published by Pro Se Press.
The first exploits of Wade and his allies were recorded in a short series of
reports by Jim Huttner (under the pen name Charles Stoddard) that were
published circa 1941. Frank Schildiner's research has been busy putting
to paper subsequently unrecorded reports of Wade's adventures, for which
the crew at MONSTAAH are quite indebted.
The training style utilized from early childhood to grant Wade his
extraordinary peak human physical and mental abilities, such as his
inventive genius and drive towards selfless heroic actions, seem similar
to those given to other legendary heroes of the same era, including Jim
Anthony and the most famous of them all, Dr. Clark "Doc Savage"
Wildman. Though this training came from disparate sources, there
appears to be some connection, including the fact that each of these
heroes--whom this author (Prof. Nero) is christening "The Champions of
Bronze"--all appeared during the same two decades, but what that
connection might be, and what lies behind the curious similarities shared
by these heroes, has not yet been subject to careful study.

In late July, the French super-soldier known as the Nyctalope--now
feeling compelled to work for Vichy France--travels on a covert mission to
Berlin unbeknownst to the Nazi regime. His purpose is to rescue noted
French archeologist Aristide Clairembart on behalf of his friend, aviator
hero Robert Morane, who was then battling alongside Charles de
Gualle's Free French resistance movement; the Nyctalope's reluctant
serving of the Vichy government would enable him to enter Berlin and get
out again with far less difficulty than Morane could. However, at this time,
a recently revived Dracula-Prime was also in Berlin, seeking out the truth
behind rumors that Nazi soldiers managed to locate and the procure the
legendary object of immense mystical power known as the Spear of
Destiny.
Since Clairembert was abducted by a small troop of soldiers led by an
S.S. officer named Muller to force him to use his expertise to determine if
a photo of the recovered Spear was the genuine article, the Nyctalope
and Dracula-Prime cross paths. After a very difficult battle, the Nyctalope
manages to rescue Clairembert and drive off the Vampire Lord thanks to
the timely intervention of the dhampiric vampire hunter Quincy Harker,
who was in Berlin attempting to prevent Dracula-Prime from acquiring the
Spear.*****
Transylvania Shortly upon returning to the main Castle Dracula situated
near the Borgo Pass, Dracula-Prime discovers the presence of popular
horror author Sandor Xaviar. The latter doesn't believe that the Dracula
legend is real, but wanted to visit the historical castle to conduct research
for a vampire novel he was planning to compose. Upon acquainting
himself with this curious visitor, the Vampire Lord becomes convinced that
this respected author would make a perfect soul-clone from which to
infiltrate the literary world and the halls of academia, which Dracula was
long curious about due to the horror genre's depiction of him in fictional
tales or accounts of his actual exploits that were believed by the public to
be fiction. He believes the literary and academic world were two
interconnected institutions that he could use to influence public opinion
and perceptions of the Undead in many useful ways.
Hence, Dracula-Prime vampirized Xaviar and used the Star Stone ring to
transform him into a primary soul-clone who we have designated Dracula-
Xaviar (a.k.a., "Dracula-X"). The Xaviar Clone was immediately
dispatched throughout Europe and America while masquerading in his
original human guise. Xaviar's original personality was highly romantic
and passionate, but he lacked sufficient mental strength to resist the
memory and personality implants imposed upon him by Dracula-Prime.
Consequently, he believes he is the real Vlad Dracula who had taken
the guise of a mortal writer whom he killed and "absorbed" his memories
through some psychic means connected to the bite. The natural creative
abilities of his original human persona continued to "leak" into his psyche,
resulting in the continuation of his interest in writing and historical
research, both of which he continued to avidly pursue.
Nevertheless, he remains fully under the control of Dracula-Prime, who
was able to "see" and act through the Xaviar Clone. Through this
soul-clone, he is now able to monitor and create a power base for himself
within the ranks of writers and academics.
